Back in the late-2000's we used to do an annual Bishop trip to hit the trails in the Eastern Sierras and White Mountains. Long-time So Cal Broncos member Greg Weirick is our local Bishop resident and area expert, so he will once again be our guide as we head up into the high country each day. Greg mentioned that for this year the 3 days will most likely cover Wheeler Crest, Coyote Flats, and the White Mountains via Silver Canyon. I've been on each of those routes in past years and they are all spectacular.

We are camping at Brown’s Mill Pond Campground. Here is the information. Note that as of this writing we have already booked up 7 of the 10 RV sites so get yours quickly if you want one of those sites. For tent and dry campers you should also get your reservations as early as possible due to the high-demand for that time of the year (end of summer, start of dove season, country fair all going on at that time). Here's the info on the campground:

D & I spend a lot of time in the Owens Valley. Not sure that she'll be able to go or not, but I'm now planning on it.

Wheeler Crest is the only one that doesn't ring a bell. How technical is it?

A pic from the top of Silver Cyn (no charge for my thumb):

Some rocky sections but I did it in Coco back before having lockers. It's east of Bishop near Sherwin Summit, a bit south of Tom's Place. From the community of Swall Meadows you head up Sand Canyon, on a bench above Rock Creek. Then a spur trail leads out to Wheeler Crest where you come out on the ridge overlooking Bishop and the Owens Valley. The second pick in my post above is from that trail, before turning off toward Wheeler Ridge. Rock Creek is down in that valley beyond the Broncos in the photo.

Glad to hear you're going to join us!

Looked it up on Gaia, goes over 10k, that's got to be a good test of cooling systems! I've been up to Rock Creek scouting campgrounds, and back in the late 70's I went on an epic snow camp further up that canyon.

I'm thinking that this would be a good trip for the TrailBlazer tent trailer. Need to call this evening and get a tent spot.

I recall you had a small camping trailer when you came with us on this trip way back in the olden days.

The only time that I can recall being in that area with SCEB was when I came thru in the VW "Caddy' on my way to somewhere else. I think that was the Caddy and not Patch, but it's been a few days since then and I've slept some since then.
I did tow the TrailBlazer to one of the SOBs. Camped with the crazies out on the treeline in it. It's last outing was the Parker 425 a number of years ago. Time to get it out, prep, and use it!
